The RSPB’s digital estate is vital to our mission to create a world where wildlife, wild places and all people thrive. From rallying people together to speak up for nature, to inspiring a love of wildlife, to raising the income that pays for our conservation work in the UK and around the world.

Working together with our Senior UX/UI Designer, in a wider team of Service Designers, User researchers and Business Analysts (as part of probably the biggest tech team in conservation) you’ll play a key role in shaping our digital experiences and evangelising a user-centred approach throughout the organisation.

Together we’ll develop a deeper understanding of our users’ needs, motivations, and pains, explore a range of creative solutions, and deliver desirable, engaging experiences.

On a day-to-day basis you will work closely with our web team, designing new templates and components, and using insights from testing tools to enhance and optimise our web product. You’ll use your design skills to support the wider service design team by co-designing new concepts and services and providing advice on best practice. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced designers, contribute ideas, and see your work make a real impact.

Key responsibilities
  • Understanding User Needs: Conducting research to gather insights about users and their behaviours.
  • Designing User Interfaces in Figma: Assisting with creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mock ups that enhance usability and aesthetics.
  • Collaboration: Working with other UX designers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure that products meet user and business goals.
  • Testing and Iteration: Testing designs for usability and making adjustments based on user feedback.
  • Continuous Learning: Keeping up to date with design trends and best practices to improve user experience.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience
  • A collaborative, friendly communicator who enjoys engaging with users and stakeholders.
  • Passionate about design thinking, with strong soft skills and a user-first mindset.
  • Confident in challenging assumptions, validating ideas, and testing solutions using both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Able to interpret user behaviour through analytics tools to inform design decisions.
  • Solid understanding of design principles, with strong visual design skills and a knack for creating seamless, intuitive interactions.
  • Comfortable sharing work early, seeking feedback, and iterating based on user input.
  • Experienced in validating designs through user testing and refining based on insights.
  • A great attention to detail and willingness to learn
Nice to have
  • Experience with A/B testing software
  • Basic HTML, CSS and some JS knowledge
  • Miro or experience with another collaborative tool
  • Knowledge of how a CMS works
