Job summary

MTS Recruitment is recruiting a Junior / Trainee Estimator for an established aerospace and precision engineering manufacturer in Bishop's Stortford. This role offers a pathway from hands-on manufacturing to estimating, with support to develop costing, quotations and tender preparation.

Working alongside experienced colleagues, you will learn to prepare manufacturing estimates for CNC milling, turning and related work, review drawings, obtain supplier prices, and help produce accurate quotations

Qualifications

• Hands-on CNC machining or sheet metal background required.
• Interest in manufacturing estimating.
• Understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
• Good numeracy, detail orientation and MS Excel skills.
• Willingness to learn and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Learn to prepare manufacturing estimates and customer quotations.
• Assist with estimates for CNC milling, turning and related work.
• Review engineering drawings and interpret digital models.
• Obtain supplier prices and lead times for materials and treatments.
• Support calculations for machining times and material costs.
• Liaise with engineering, production and purchasing teams to gather technical information.
• Help prepare accurate quotations in line with customer requirements.
• Maintain quotation records and update the bid register.

The Role

Working alongside experienced colleagues, you will learn to prepare manufacturing estimates and customer quotations, using your understanding of production processes to help calculate costs and lead times.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with estimates for CNC milling, turning and associated manufacturing work.
• Reviewing engineering drawings and learning to interpret digital models.
• Obtaining supplier prices and lead times for materials, bought-out parts and treatments.
• Supporting calculations for machining times, material costs and manufacturing processes.
• Liaising with engineering, production and purchasing teams to gather technical information.
• Helping prepare accurate quotations in line with customer requirements.
• Maintaining quotation records and updating the bid register.

Requirements

• Previous hands-on experience in CNC machining or sheet metal manufacturing is essential, with operator-level experience as a minimum.
• An interest in developing a career in manufacturing estimating.
• An understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
• Good numeracy, attention to detail, and computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• A willingness to learn and work towards deadlines.

Previous estimating experience is welcome but is not essential for candidates with the required practical manufacturing background.
