The Oak Barn Restaurant is a privately owned, family run, 150 cover bar & restaurant situated in Mid-Sussex, close to Haywards Heath & Burgess Hill.

We are currently one of the top-rated restaurants in Sussex and are looking for a Junior Sous Chef to join our talented team to continue providing fantastic quality fresh cooked to order dishes.

Our freshly made Rosette standard seasonal menu is key to our business. It features modern British cuisine that combines the classics alongside more contemporary dishes. We also run specials that change daily.

In addition to this, we cater for large group bookings, weddings, and buffets, providing plenty of variety.

We are looking for someone who:
  1. Has innovation, creativity, and attention to detail
  2. Relishes in the pressure of a kitchen environment
  3. Has a background in Gastro pubs or hotels
  4. Ideally has their own transport
  5. Is used to working with fresh ingredients and places heavy emphasis on quality and consistency
  6. Has a good understanding of health & safety and food safety guidelines within the kitchen

  4. Learning about maintaining GP’s & targets set by the business & Head Chef

Responsibilities:
  1. Checking the cleanliness, organisation and standards within the kitchen
  2. Assisting the brigade in the smooth, safe and efficient running of the kitchen operation
  3. To assist both the Head & Senior Sous Chef in the training of younger members of the team
  4. Responsible for the day to day running of any given section
  5. Demonstrating a committed approach to maintain a consistent service in the kitchen
  6. Assisting both the Head & Senior Sous Chef in the development of both the menus & daily specials
  7. Ensuring the quality of food is of the exceptional standard expected
  8. Be aware of health and safety and hygiene regulations & help maintain to a high standard
  9. Help with ordering on a daily basis, whilst keeping in mind stock usage, menu planning and business levels

Salary:

£30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
