We’re looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join our growing team in York! Whether you're fresh from university or have been sharpening your skills on personal projects, this is your chance to work on real-world applications using modern technologies like Rust, Java, Docker, and Kubernetes. Your Impact

• Software Development: Implement, and maintain scalable, maintainable, and efficient Rust and/or Java based applications, built on top of a Kubernetes architecture.
• Quick Learner: Be able to learn the breadth of technologies that your team uses while gaining a depth of skills in core technologies like Rust, Java and Kubernetes.
• Collaboration & Communication: Your team and the teams around you will be working on complex and interesting work. You will need to collaborate with these teams by articulating complex ideas in understandable ways.
• Energised: be a self-starter and self-motivated. You should dive into the work assigned to you and want to deliver a high quality product.
• Confident: the team you join contains passionate engineers who have high energy discussions. As you gain confidence, we want you to join these discussions with the same level of passion.

Your Qualifications

• Experience: A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience in a professional environment.
• Coding: We expect some experience in any recognised programming languages. This can be professional, academic or practiced as a hobby. If you have a GitHub account or equivalent you can show us to demonstrate your ability, that would be excellent.

Desired Skills

• Rust and/or Java Programming: The team you join writes code in both Rust and Java. You'll only be expectedto use one when you join but some experience using either will give you a head start.
• Containerised applications: most of what we build is deployed in Docker containers. Knowing about tools like Docker and Helm will help you understand how our code gets to production.
• Kubernetes Architecture: The containers we build are deployed via Kubernetes (mostly). It's okay not to have experience in Kubernetes but you should expect to be working with it when you join the team.
• Education: A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
