Job summary

Wilsons Auctions, the UK and Ireland's largest independently owned auction house, seeks an Entry‑Level Software Developer to contribute to the Gavel platform. This role can be based at our regional offices in Belfast, Glasgow, Newcastle, or Dublin, working with TypeScript, NestJS, React, and Next.js on AWS.

You will develop across API, admin portal and public site, write tests, and help with CI/CD and IaC. A proactive learner who communicates well will fit this team.

Qualifications

• Practical software development experience from commercial work, placement, or projects.
• Solid TypeScript/JavaScript knowledge and modern web app basics.
• Familiarity with React or Next.js or willingness to learn quickly.
• Basic understanding of backend APIs and MySQL.
• Commitment to automated tests and quality code.
• Awareness of secure coding practices and data handling.
• Methodical troubleshooting and clear documentation.
• Good communication and collaboration in reviews and pairing.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to enhancements, new functionality and defects across the monorepo.
• Develop clear TypeScript code under guidance and coding standards.
• Support NestJS backend services and migrations with supervision.
• Assist frontend development in React/Next.js for usability and performance.
• Participate in unit, integration and end-to-end testing.
• Help deliver, test and troubleshoot third-party integrations and webhooks.
• Create documentation, run-books and knowledge transfer materials.
• Learn CI/CD and IaC with GitLab CI, CodeBuild/CodeDeploy and AWS CDK.
• Monitor and investigate issues via CloudWatch and logs.
