The Role

Technology is an important part of how we deliver and develop those solutions. As Junior Software Developer, you will support the continued development, testing and improvement of Learning Cog’s digital products and internal technology platforms. Working with the Software Developer and the wider Learning Cog team, you will contribute to real projects while receiving guidance, feedback and practical experience. As your skills and confidence grow, you will take ownership of increasingly complex work. This is an early-career role suitable for a recent graduate or someone who has developed equivalent skills through a placement, internship, bootcamp, employment, freelance work or personal projects.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Contribute to the development, testing and maintenance of Learning Cog’s technology platforms
  • Build and improve accessible, responsive web interfaces
  • Test new features, user journeys and system updates before release
  • Identify, investigate and clearly document bugs and technical issues
  • Support backend development tasks under guidance, with responsibility increasing over time
  • Write clean, readable and maintainable code appropriate to the task
  • Use GitHub and GitHub Projects to manage assigned work, update progress and raise blockers
  • Record fixes, setup instructions, testing steps and other useful technical guidance
  • Take part in regular check-ins, code reviews and project discussions
  • Work constructively with technical and non-technical colleagues to understand requirements
  • Learn and apply effective development, testing, security and documentation practices
  • Manage clearly defined tasks across multiple projects, asking for support when needed
  • Some practical software or web development experience gained through study, a placement, employment, a bootcamp, freelance work or personal projects
  • Foundational knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • An understanding of how frontend and backend components work together in a web application
  • A logical approach to problem-solving, testing and investigating errors
  • A passion for writing clear, readable and maintainable code
  • Clear verbal and written communication, including the ability to explain progress and blockers
  • A willingness to ask questions, receive feedback and continue learning
  • An organised, collaborative and dependable approach to assigned work
