Job overview

An exciting B6 position has become available on Durrington/AFU ward.

Durrington acute medical frailty ward is a growing team of nurses, clinicians and therapists. This is a fast-paced environment, caring for patients with different medical conditions, and complex discharge planning.

Durrington is a very friendly and supportive environment, with an enthusiastic team. You will be clinically challenged as a key member of the management and leadership team deputising for the ward sister/charge nurse in his absence.

As a registered, accountable and autonomous nurse, you will act in the best interests of your patients at all times and take personal responsibility for your actions and decisions.

You will be responsible for patient assessment, planning of care, giving and supervising safe and compassionate care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care.

As an NMC registrant, facilitate learning and development of all staff and students. You will demonstrate strong leadership qualities and be open, transparent and trustworthy. As a Trust employee, act with integrity and uphold the values and beliefs of the Trust and the NMC Code of Conduct.

Main duties of the job

  • Professional and ethical practice.
  • You will work closely with the Ward Manager to manage the ward. In this privileged position, you will communicate effectively, listen to staff and ensure their views are heard.
  • You will also support your Senior Sister by agreeing on decisions and plans for the development of the ward and be able to present a united, cohesive voice as a senior member of the team.
  • Supervise and monitor care delivery in your ward ensuring care is delivered by all staff and students with kindness, compassion and respect. You will be mindful of standards at all times and if you have concerns, you will know how to manage them or raise them to the Senior Sister or DSN.

Care management and educational responsibilities.

  • Contribute to public protection by creating and maintaining a safe environment of care through the use of quality assurance and risk management strategies. You will have a good understanding of how to complete clinical risk assessments, adverse incident reports, and provide feedback for staff who complete adverse incident forms.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of effective inter-professional working practices which respect and utilise the contributions of members of the health and social care team.
