The post holder will be a clinically credible registered practitioner who is highly experienced and proficient in the management of the acutely unwell patient with a comprehensive background of experience in critical care. They will utilize their clinical expertise and specialist knowledge to deliver high quality evidence / research based care to the critically ill patient. They will act as a role model providing support, education and training to the multi-professional team caring for the critically ill patient. The post holder will have a degree of autonomy where they will be responsible for patients across a number of specialties.
They will be required to work flexibly as a member of the critical care team to ensure standards are being maintained, evaluated and where necessary improved. In addition, to the obligatory advanced clinical skills, the practitioner may be required to develop a range of additional skills or techniques that fall outside the usual scope of nursing practice.
Deliver highly skilled care to critically ill patients
Act as a role model through standards of behaviour and professionalism, through clinical practice and commitment to the integration of policies and procedures within the role and workplace.
Act as shift leader/deputy mentor and guide team throughout shift.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care and treatments within critical care .
• Ensureinterventionsareundertakeninlinewith bestpractice guidance.
• CommunicatewithintheMDTallissuesrelatingto treatment changes .
• Prepareaccurateandconciseverbalandwritten reports.
• Keeprelevantrecordsandsubmitreportsinaprofessionallyacceptable manner.
• Deploy effective communication strategies to ensure that information and knowledgeisimpartedsensitivelyaccordingtotheneedsofpatients,staffand students in training.
• Planandmanageownworkloadinaflexiblemanner,ensuringserviceprovision meets the needs of clients.
• Promoteapositiverelationshipwithallstakeholderswithinthe service.
• Participate in clinical governance process, including adverse incident reporting/investigationandthemanagementof complaints,asappropriate.

The post holder will be working within the Critical Care Team at East Lancashire Hospital Trust and will be a band 6 with experience in critical care. The main roles and responsibilities will sit with the management and direct care of patients within the critical care unit, alongside providing leadership within the team and working closely with the MDT.
