Job summary

Precept Recruit is seeking a proactive Junior Setter based in Nottingham. This onsite, permanent role focuses on setting and inspecting production machinery within a precision engineering environment, delivering quality components on time.

You will learn to operate and changeover machines, support continuous improvement, and maintain high safety standards while rotating between day and night shifts as part of a structured shift pattern.

Qualifications

• Experience in setting and inspecting machines in precision engineering/manufacturing.
• Strong communication and a positive attitude.
• Safety-conscious with ability to work independently and in a team.
• GCSEs (A-C) including Maths & English, Level 1 Maths & English, or an engineering apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate production machines with oversight.
• Support machine setters with daily production tasks.
• Carry out machine changeovers and minor adjustments.
• Measure and inspect components to quality standards.
• Record production data accurately.
• Monitor machine performance and report issues.
• Follow health & safety procedures and 5S housekeeping.

Junior Setter | Nottingham - Onsite | Permanent | Competitive Salary

Permanent Junior Setter role based close to Nottingham. Full-time, onsite position offering a competitive salary with benefits. This role suits proactive, detail-oriented individuals with experience in machine setting and inspection within engineering or manufacturing environments.

This position requires both a day and night shift, please review the shifts to ensure you are comfortable before applying.

• Day Shift: Monday to Thursday, 0700 -1530, and Friday, 0700 -1230.
• Night Shift: Monday to Wednesday, 2000-0600, and Thursday, 2000-0530.

You will typically work day shifts for 6-8 weeks, followed by two weeks of night shifts, before returning to day shifts and repeating the rotation.

What you will be doing

As a Machine Setter, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient setup and operation of automatic production machines, maintaining high standards of quality and safety. You'll work as part of a dedicated team, supporting continuous improvement and adhering to strict safety protocols to deliver precision-engineered components reliably and efficiently.

• Learn to set and operate production machinery.
• Support skilled Machine Setters with daily production.

• Change tooling under supervision.
• Follow health & safety and manual handling procedures.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a motivated individual with relevant experience in setting and inspecting machines within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment. Strong communication skills and a positive attitude are essential for success in this role. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, able to work independently and within a team, and eager to contribute to process improvements.

• Experience using automatic machine setting and inspection techniques, with familiarity of ERP systems like EFACS an advantage
• Previous background in precision engineering or manufacturing required
• Qualifications: GCSEs (A-C including Maths & English), Level 1 Maths and English, or an engineering apprenticeship
• Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude towards learning and team collaboration
