Southern Water are building teams ensuring delivery of water to our customers across southern England.

We are recruiting a Junior Security Analyst to join our cyber team and be part of the team securing our systems and networks within Southern Water’s vast infrastructure.

As Junior Security Analyst, you will be responsible for responding to security related incidents, protecting SWS assets from cyber-attacks and monitoring, hunting and defending against threats, under the leadership of the SecOps Lead.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Responding to incidents and requests assigned to the Security Operations within SLAs
  • Supporting the development and running of reporting for compliance and digital teams as well as performance reporting for the security operations team.
  • Carrying out analysis and testing for the purposes of identifying vulnerabilities, misconfigurations or other exposures, and the validation of user policies.
  • Monitoring, auditing and reporting on compliance to SWS security standards highlighting compliance breaches or potential risks.
  • Monitoring and actioning requests and queries to the Information Security.
  • Assisting in planning, management and execution of vulnerability and risk assessment projects
  • Providing advice and practical assistance on information security risk and control throughout the organisation. Promoting security awareness to all staff.
  • Documenting formal, technical incident reports for consumption by digital teams and senior leadership
  • Vulnerability management reporting ensuring patching policies and processes are in place and applied in a regular and controlled manner.
  • Providing digital teams with incident support, including mitigating actions to contain activity and advisory for remedial actions.
  • Researching and tracking information about current security threats and potential vulnerabilities.
  • Participating in ongoing quality assurance activities during the development and implementation stages of IT security initiatives.
  • Supporting threat assessment and vulnerability management across complex business structures, including the deployment, administration and management of network-based vulnerability scanners.
  • On-call support as part of a managed rota

Knowledge & experience needed:

  • Degree in computer science, information security, cybersecurity or a related field or equivalent
  • Experience in IT and Security technologies
  • Experience in report writing and investigational techniques in an operational environment
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements
  • Toolsets and skills – vulnerability and risk analysis, ability to use security tools.
  • Maintenance and management of security systems/devices.
  • Effective problem-solving, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate actionable insights and complex findings
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Curiosity and desire to learn.
