Job summary

Hitachi Rail UK Limited in London is seeking a Junior Materials and Technology Engineer to join our team. This early-career role focuses on materials engineering and special manufacturing processes, with exposure to railway vehicle projects and international collaboration.

You will support bonding, painting, corrosion-protection, and documentation management, working across internal and external project teams in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering.
• Experience on railway vehicle projects in materials, special-process or related engineering roles.
• Knowledge of bonding, painting and corrosion-protection processes.
• Understanding of materials and special-process documentation and requirement management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Collaborative and flexible approach, with ability to work in a team.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
• English written and spoken to at least B2 level.
• Knowledge of DIN 6701 and European chemical-substance requirements (REACH/SCIP) advantageous.
• EAS European Adhesive Specialist qualification beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Support management of materials and special-process requirements using DOORS.
• Manage technical documentation and activities for materials and special processes.
• Provide support across bonding, painting and corrosion-protection activities.
• Collaborate with internal and external sub-project teams.
• Coordinate resources involved in materials and special-process activities.
• Help ensure materials-related requirements and deliverables are managed.
• Build strong working relationships across engineering and project teams.
