Junior Quality Engineer

Our client is an esteemed UK specialist in the design and production of precision gearing systems and gearboxes.

The Role

To support the Quality Department in ensuring that manufactured products and processes comply with internal, customer, and regulatory requirements. The Junior Quality Engineer assists with inspection, documentation, non-conformance resolution, and quality improvement activities under the guidance of senior quality team members.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Control & Inspection Support:

  • Assist with the review of product inspection reports and documentation (e.g. first-off, in-process, and final inspection).
  • Support the compilation and submission of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with AS9102.
  • Help ensure quality records are accurate, complete, and properly archived.

Non-Conformance Management:

  • Log and track internal and supplier non-conformances (NCRs) within the quality management system.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action processes (e.g. 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams) under supervision.
  • Follow up on action closure and effectiveness monitoring.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Assist with the maintenance and control of quality documents, procedures, and work instructions in line with AS9100 requirements.
  • Participate in internal audits by providing data, records, and assistance to auditors.
  • Help ensure compliance with ITAR and customer-specific quality requirements as instructed.

Process Improvement Support:

  • Collect and analyse quality data to identify trends or recurring issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S, lean projects, and process reviews.
  • Maintain a proactive attitude toward learning and improving quality systems and processes.

Training & Development:

  • Undertake on-the-job training and development to build technical knowledge in aerospace quality standards and gear manufacturing processes.
  • Work toward becoming a qualified Internal Auditor and gaining familiarity with industry tools (e.g. PPAP, APQP, SPC, FMEA).

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Basic understanding of quality management principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications (training provided).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to compliance.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Willingness to learn and take instruction from Senior Engineers.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related technical field (or working toward).
  • 0 – 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing or quality-related environment (placement or apprenticeship experience acceptable).
  • Knowledge of AS9100, ITAR, or NADCAP is beneficial but not essential – training will be provided.
  • Familiarity with mechanical inspection tools (e.g. micrometers, verniers) is advantageous.
