Direct message the job poster from Walsall Black Sisters Collective
BACKGROUND:Walsall Black Sisters Collective (WBSC), a Black-led organisation born from the resistance movements of the 1980s, is proud to lead The Walsall Windrush Project. At the heart of the project is a landmark heritage book: The Walsall Windrush Sisters Book. One of its flagship outcomes is the creation of a community-authored book documenting the stories, struggles, and resilience of Windrush women and their families who made Walsall home between the 1950s and 1990s.
We are now looking for you to support this important work, helping us uncover the hidden histories of Black Caribbean women in Walsall, and translate these findings into a compelling narrative for the book, exhibition, website, and wider educational use.
This is a rare opportunity to work on a heritage-led publication rooted in race, migration, identity, and resistance, one that will leave a legacy in Walsall and beyond.
PURPOSE OF ROLE:You will play a key role in researching and developing the historical backdrop for the Windrush Sisters Book, working closely with our Project Lead and community participants. Your research will provide the foundation for understanding the socio-political landscape faced by Windrush women in Walsall, from housing and healthcare to education and employment. Your name will appear as part of a collective authorship. You’ll help shape the historical framework, provide critical context, and ensure these women’s voices are understood within their full social, political, and cultural power.
