Junior Portfolio Manager – Alternative Credit

London, 4 days in the office per week | Institutional Asset Owner (large pension scheme)

£1bn portfolio oversight | Direct & manager-led strategies | High-impact role

A large, well known UK-based institutional asset owner with £30bn in AUM is seeking a Junior Portfolio Manager to join its Alternative Credit team. You’ll be responsible for managing £1bn in AUM, deployed across a wider variety of sub-investment grade instruments.

The Role

This is a hands-on investment role with broad exposure across the portfolio. Working closely with the Head of Desk, you’ll help shape and implement strategies across the alternative credit spectrum, from manager selection to direct and co-investments.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing day-to-day portfolio activity and cash flows, with oversight from senior leadership
• Conducting investment research and generating ideas across relevant asset classes
• Contributing to co-investment and direct investment execution
• Preparing and delivering analysis and presentations to senior stakeholders
• Engaging closely with internal and external parties to ensure seamless execution and governance
• Supporting sourcing, evaluation, and monitoring of fund managers
• Leading aspects of manager tenders, including fee negotiation and documentation

Your Profile

If you’re an early- to mid-career investment professional with a background in institutional asset management, alternative credit, or manager research, we’d like to hear from you. We’re looking for candidates who bring:

• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Experience evaluating credit-oriented investment opportunities or fund managers
• Familiarity with portfolio construction principles and risk budgeting
• Confidence working with internal teams (e.g., Legal, Risk, Operations) and external managers
• Proactive mindset and a desire to contribute to a mission-driven investment platform
• Progress towards (or interest in) a CFA or similar qualification is welcomed
