Job description

Are you looking for a career in Emergency Medicine in a large UK teaching hospital with a Major Trauma Centre?

The Emergency Department at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is excited to offer opportunities for motivated doctors to join our friendly Emergency Medicine team from 3rd December 2025 for 12 months.

You will have the opportunity to work in a forward-thinking, dynamic department committed to developing staff and delivering outstanding healthcare outcomes for patients.

Depending on your experience and interview, you may be offered a Junior Fellow role on our Tier 2 (CT1/2 level) rota or Tier 3 rota (CT3 level), which requires holding MRCEM. We may also offer a Senior Fellow role at Tier 4, our registrar rota, if you have the required experience in ED plus MRCEM, considering your interview. There are opportunities for T3 clinicians to progress to Tier 4 if full MRCEM is obtained and progression reviews are completed.

Please note, you must be available to start on 3rd December to align with our Resident doctor rotation, which includes an induction to the Trust and a departmental induction on 4th December, both of which are mandatory.

Working in our ED involves management skills such as managing the shop floor, meeting the four-hour target, and constant reprioritisation of tasks.

You will be supported to develop your competencies and portfolio evidence to meet your objectives, working under the clinical direction of EM Consultants who are present 24/7. All Fellows will have a monthly teaching day and dedicated educational development time reflected on your rota. You will be assigned an Educational and Clinical supervisor.

As a Fellow in ED, we offer:

  • Monthly teaching
  • Workplace-based assessments
  • Shop floor supervision
  • Opportunities to participate in teaching
  • Audit work and Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs)
  • Research opportunities
  • Potential secondment to other specialties based on interest and placement availability
