BMI UK&I have an exciting permanent opportunity for a Junior Modelling & Simulation Engineer to join the team. Reporting to the Manager Modelling & Simulation, this role is based in Crawley.

Role Summary

As the Junior Modelling & Simulation Engineer, you will provide solutions under the guidance of senior colleagues using modelling and simulation software for projects involving roofing products and systems to advance our BMI Digital footprint.

You will tackle a wide variety of technically challenging tasks, necessary to improve the commercial position of the BMI Group, to support and communicate results to colleagues within Technical Center and across the BMI Group.

You will also ensure digital assets (e.g. images, animations, software tools) are created according to specification and maintained.

Travel and work on-site globally to execute and implement value-adding solutions within time and resource budgets.

As the Junior Modelling & Simulation Engineer, your key responsibilities will be:
  • To assist in the development of new digital innovations, methodologies and products.
  • To interpret specifications correctly and produce digital assets/tools acceptable to customers.
  • Agree and complete assigned tasks from senior colleagues to meet the specified output.
  • Ensuring compliance with CTSD protocols; e.g. Standards, Company Quality system, Risk Assessment, Marketing Brief, Process Specifications, validation processes, reporting tools, ensuring consistency, quality and accuracy.
  • Understand the role of the Department and the key commercial and manufacturing drivers of the business.
  • Provide technical support for field tests to prove the applicability of theories developed.
  • Carry out testing to validate products, systems and solutions prior to release.
  • Be aware of technical developments in the relevant fields.
Your key skills and experience will include:
  • Engineer with training or experience in an engineering, software development, or design environment.
  • Degree or equivalent in relevant STEM or Product Design subjects.
  • Skills in simulation (e.g. CFD, FEA) and/or mathematical modelling software.
  • Workshop and prototyping skills.
  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Good team working and time management skills.
  • Experience using office applications; e.g. Google Workspace or MS Office.
  • The ability to learn quickly when working to tight time scales.
  • Prepare reports for approval by senior technical staff on complex issues in a readily understandable way, so that non-technical staff can make best use of our output for commercial gain.
  • Software development skills in at least one programming language; e.g. Python, C++, MATLAB (desirable).
  • Skills in 2D & 3D CAD (desirable).
  • An understanding of the processes involved in a design and production environment (desirable).
  • Experience of the roofing business (desirable).
  • A working knowledge of one or more European languages (desirable).
