Junior Mechanical Design Engineer (Sheet Metal / SolidWorks / Solid Edge) £34,000 - £37,000 + 24 days holiday + Training & Development + Pension + Flexible Working Hours + Free Parking

Location: Exeter

Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking to take the next step in your career with a new and exciting challenge at a well-established company? Do you have experience in new product design and development and want to work for an established and growing manufacturer that values its employees? This company has a proven track record of developing and promoting staff, investing in continuous improvement and driving innovation.

On offer is a role reporting to the Technical Engineering Manager. You will be responsible for the design, engineering, and specification of all new products, alongside maintaining the existing product range and implementing necessary modifications. Working alongside the Design team, you will generate production-ready designs and help ensure the smooth running of the department, meeting timescales and quality standards.

The role:

  1. Work closely with the Technical Engineering Manager and design and development department, taking products from conception to detailed engineering drawings for manufacture.
  2. Determine manufacturing methods for engineering designs.
  3. Carry out DFMEA at the outset of each project.
  4. Ensure tolerance analysis is performed during the design process.
  5. Collaborate with all departments involved in the NPD program, including Development, Production Engineering, and Purchasing, to implement design for manufacture prior to product handover.

The person:

  • Either degree educated or with a proven engineering background with a strong bias toward mechanical engineering.
  • Sheet metal manufacturing experience and knowledge of sheet metal processes.
