Gi Group in Fareham is seeking a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to grow alongside an innovative engineering team. The role involves translating requirements into practical 3D models and drawings, supporting development from concept through to manufacture.

You'll design cooling distribution units, pump skids, heat exchangers and associated assemblies, collaborate with process engineers, and contribute to international projects in a hybrid-working environment after induction.

Competenze

• Background in mechanical engineering or mechanical design.

Ready to take the next step in your mechanical design engineering career?

We're looking for an enthusiastic Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join an innovative engineering and technology team based in Fareham.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your design skills while working on exciting engineering projects involving cooling distribution units (CDUs), pump skids, heat exchangers and associated mechanical assemblies.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, taking technical and process requirements and translating them into practical 3D mechanical designs that can ultimately be manufactured. It's a varied role offering exposure to new product development, existing product improvements and collaboration with wider engineering and manufacturing teams.

The Role

You’ll play an important part in the design and development of mechanical equipment, with responsibilities including:

• Creating and modifying 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
• Designing mechanical layouts, assemblies, frames, supports and piping arrangements.
• Interpreting P&ID drawings and translating process requirements into practical physical designs.
• Ensuring designs consider tolerances, accessibility, assembly and manufacturing requirements.
• Producing Bills of Materials (BOMs), component lists and technical documentation.
• Supporting prototype builds, product improvements and engineering changes.
• Working closely with process engineers, manufacturing and wider technical teams.
• Supporting the development of products for manufacture across international sites.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to hear from someone with a good foundation in mechanical design who is enthusiastic about developing their technical expertise.

You’ll ideally have:

• A background in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design.
• Experience using Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software.
• The ability to produce 3D models and 2D engineering drawings.
• An understanding of mechanical assemblies, piping layouts and engineering drawings.
• The ability to interpret technical information, ideally including P&ID diagrams.
• An understanding of manufacturing processes, tolerances and design considerations.
• Good communication skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach to learning.

Desirable experience

Pump skids, industrial equipment, piping systems, heat exchangers, sheet metal fabrication or exposure to FEA/CFD.

Don't worry if you haven’t worked with all these products before. What's important is having sound mechanical design fundamentals, good CAD skills and the enthusiasm to learn.
