Job description

We are seeking a Junior Analyst to work within our Food Testing microbiology department in Belfast.

This is a full-time role working 36.25 hours per week - Sunday to Thursday 09:30 till 17:30. The training shift for the first 6 weeks will be Monday to Friday 09:30 - 17:30.

Flexibility in working hours is required and overtime may be required to be worked at short notice during peak business demands during the week and at the weekend.

Responsibilities
  • Preparation of media (agars etc.) to be used in microbiological analysis.
  • Sample preparation in line with company protocols.
  • Microbiological analysis of water/food/feed/swabs samples in line with company protocols.
  • Training and operation of relevant equipment.
  • General housekeeping of laboratory and prevention of cross-contamination.
  • Accurate record-keeping associated with UKAS quality system.
  • Effective communication with all employees.
  • Report any anomalous results or situations to Line Manager.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety procedures within the laboratory.
  • Collection of laboratory samples from customer sites (food only, when required).
  • Any other related activities as required by post.
  • Additional responsibilities as and when required.
Qualifications
  • Computer literate with experience of MS Office applications (in particular Excel).
  • Comfortable working in a busy environment.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • It is desirable to have a degree in a related scientific field.
  • It is desirable to have experience of culture of microorganisms and knowledge of laboratory accreditation systems (ideally ISO 17025).
