About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, fast-growing team ranging from data analysts and software developers to client-facing and contract negotiation roles.

Ecotricity Smart Grid provides a route to market for distributed energy resources via our in-house developed asset flexibility platform and optimiser. These typically include grid-scale storage, renewable technologies, or aggregated demand-side response from domestic and business sites.

Our platform operates 24/7, 365 days a year, making support, development, and maintenance crucial to ensure optimal decision-making for the assets under our control.

We continually aim to enhance our software platform by analysing performance, exploring new opportunities, delivering value to our customers, and contributing to our energy future.

This is a hybrid role requiring three days a week at our Stroud, Gloucestershire offices.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Maintain and update public & internal facing web apps using Typescript, React & Next.js
  2. Collaborate with senior colleagues to gather requirements, scope tasks, and deliver solutions for internal teams
  3. Write clean, readable code that can be explained and presented to colleagues
  4. Learn deployment, testing, and implementation of applications using deployment pipelines
  5. Participate in code reviews and collaborate with the development team on solutions and ideas
  6. Participate in backend Python development; training provided if necessary
  7. Support platform troubleshooting and bug fixing as part of an internal support rota

About You

We seek a junior front-end developer with some professional experience in React to join a team of primarily back-end developers. Your initial focus will be revamping our website and customer portal, progressing to more extensive front-end, back-end, and development tasks using Typescript and Python.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a high capacity for learning new skills and an active interest in the energy industry. Some professional experience in collaborative development and a portfolio of hobby projects are required.

  • Proficient in JS / React web applications
  • Experience with Cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud, MS Azure)
  • Knowledge of git or other version control systems
  • Understanding of relational or non-relational databases
  • Experience working in a collaborative software development environment
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly
  • Strong initiative and collaboration skills

  • Interest or experience in the Energy Industry or similar commercial roles
