Job Title:

Junior Environmental Engineer

Reporting to:

Power Region Environmental Manager

Business Unit:

Power Region (Renewables NI)

Role purpose

This role is pivotal in providing advice and feedback on sustainable practices and environmental compliance, whilst promoting innovation and eco-friendly initiatives.

The Environmental Engineer will work closely with BUGM, Project Managers, Quality & Design Engineers, SHEQ team members, and other members of the Power Region business units to ensure the safe and environmentally sustainable delivery of Renewable and HV substation projects.

Responsibilities & Duties
  1. Environmental Strategy: Implement Omexom environmental management plans to support sustainability goals and ensure compliance with industry standards and ISO 14001 regulations. Use your expertise to inspire a cultural transformation and integrate environmentally sustainable behaviors and tools across the Omexom business.
  2. Audits and Assessments: Conduct environmental audits and impact assessments across projects to identify risks and recommend mitigation measures.
  3. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all statutory permissions, licenses, and exemptions are obtained and adhered to.
  4. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with Senior Managers, Project Managers, Contractors, and Clients to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and best practices.
  5. Coaching: Deliver training and workshops on environmental policies, waste management, and resource optimization.
  6. Waste Management: Oversee waste management, including Site Waste Management Plan implementation and record-keeping.

Qualifications and experience

The jobholder shall be a motivated self-starter with:

  • Previous management experience, including addressing poor performance.
  • Good commercial awareness with the ability to monitor and report performance against targets.
  • Knowledge of electrical infrastructure, safety rules/legislation, and CDM (UK) / Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations.
  • Willingness to grow within the Omexom Environmental and Sustainability team.
  • Working towards a recognized qualification in Environmental Management.
  • Awareness of environmental and carbon legislation and the broader climate change agenda.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Exceptional customer focus.
  • A commitment to company values.
