About The Role

We have an exciting new opportunity to join the Economic Regulation Team within Northumbrian Water, learning about the real-life application of economics to utility regulation. You will be part of a small and experienced team, with knowledge across the regulatory landscape, who can offer the support to develop your skills and learn new specialisms.

You will play a key role supporting the team in understanding, applying and influencing the design of the regulatory framework so that it incentivises the best outcomes for our customers and the environment. This includes the provision of resilient water and wastewater services and achievement of our ambitions for delivering net zero carbon emissions. The role therefore offers the opportunity for the right person to make a real difference, improving our natural environment and the services we provide to our customers.

The role will involve collating data and evidence to support influencing the design of the framework of economic regulation, to support the development of robust future plans, and to enable us to report back on progress to regulators, customers and stakeholders. By working with experts from across the business, the role will also help support the improvement of our Value Framework, which will enable us to take better account of the impact on society and the environment when making investment decisions.

To do this you will work across the breadth of our business and have close contact with experts from all key areas including operational delivery, tactical planning, asset management and finance.

We are therefore looking for an individual who can establish positive and effective working relationships and is eager to learn and develop their skills. The best fit for the role is someone who is a good communicator, has strong analytical, numerical and written abilities as well as an eye for detail, while also embodying our core values.

The ideal candidate would be a recent graduate ideally in economics, possibly combined with another relevant discipline such as politics, finance or mathematics. Any relevant post graduate experience would be an advantage but not essential.

Here at Northumbrian Water, Diversity, Inclusion and Equity means bringing your full self to work. We encourage and welcome applications from all backgrounds and groups, as we believe and strive for community representation within all our teams, structures and organisation.

Start date: As soon as possible / upon completion of studies in 2025
