Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in the United Kingdom (Wales, Cardiff) is seeking an ecologist to work both independently and in teams, delivering ecological assessments and habitat design for development and nature recovery projects. You will contribute to innovative mitigation approaches, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders, and produce high-quality reports in line with current guidance.

A passion for ecology and familiarity with Biodiversity Net Gain are desirable.

Qualifications

• Passion for ecology and environment.
• Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain legislation and methods.
• Ability to write clear ecological reports.
• Experience with GIS and geospatial tools is a plus.
• Awareness of protected species surveys and licensing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct ecological assessments and habitat design for development projects.
• Develop innovative ecological mitigation and compensation approaches.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and engage clients/stakeholders.
• Deliver high-quality ecological deliverables aligned with current guidelines.

Your role

• Working individually but also, collaboratively, in a team environment.
• Undertaking ecological assessment and habitat design for a variety of development and nature recovery projects.
• Supporting to develop innovative and pragmatic approaches to ecological mitigation and compensation.
• Collaborating within multi‑disciplinary teams and engaging with stakeholders / clients.
• Delivering clear and concise, high quality ecological deliverables in line with current guidance and good practice.

About You

• A passion for ecology.
• A knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain legislation, policy and methods, the natural environment and wildlife legislation.
• Report writing skills for typical ecological reporting (Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments or Biodiversity Net Gain).
• Beneficial to be competent in using GIS and/or other geospatial applications.
• Awareness of methodology in undertaking protected species surveys, mitigation and licensing.
• Motivated to take ownership and pride in work.
• Membership of CIEEM is desirable.
• Full driving licence is desirable.
