We’re working with a growing UK engineering and manufacturing business that designs and delivers innovative products for commercial environments. Due to continued growth, they’re looking for a motivated Junior Design Engineer to join their collaborative design team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a foundation in mechanical design and CAD who is keen to develop their skills, gain greater exposure to the full product lifecycle and build a long-term career within an established engineering business.

Full UK Driving Licence Essential

A full UK driving licence and access to your own transport are essential for this position. The site is not accessible by public transport, so candidates must be able to drive to and from the workplace.

No Sponsorship Required

Candidates must have the existing right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, this position is unable to offer visa sponsorship.

The Role

As a Junior Design Engineer, you’ll work alongside an experienced CAD and engineering team, supporting projects from initial concept through to manufacture.

Using SolidWorks, you’ll develop 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings, working closely with internal teams to ensure designs meet customer requirements, production needs and project deadlines.

You’ll receive ongoing support and training, giving you the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge and become increasingly involved in projects from concept through to manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Convert customer 2D drawings into detailed 3D models for client approval.
  • Assist with the preparation of manufacturing drawing packs for the fabrication team.
  • Ensure drawings comply with internal design processes and production standards.
  • Support multiple projects while working towards agreed deadlines and specifications.
  • Upload drawings and technical documentation through customer design portals.
  • Liaise with internal departments to support smooth project delivery.
  • Provide technical support and assist with customer enquiries when required.
  • Work closely with experienced designers and engineers to develop your technical skills.
  • Support the wider CAD team with additional design and engineering activities as required.
About You

We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Design Engineer who is keen to develop within a practical engineering and manufacturing environment.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Some experience using SolidWorks, either commercially, through an internship, apprenticeship or as part of your studies.
  • Experience producing or interpreting 2D and 3D technical drawings.
  • The ability to interpret customer drawing packages and technical information.
  • A good understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and mathematical ability.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A willingness to learn and develop your engineering knowledge.
  • A proactive and positive attitude with strong team-working skills.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle – essential due to the site's location and lack of public transport access.
  • Existing right to work in the UK – no sponsorship is available for this position.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Junior Design Engineer to join a successful and growing engineering and manufacturing business where you can develop your skills and progress your career.

You’ll benefit from:

  • Working on a variety of projects from concept through to manufacture.
  • Hands-on experience within an established engineering and manufacturing environment.
  • Working alongside an experienced and supportive design team.
  • Ongoing training and professional development.
  • Genuine opportunities for career progression.
  • The opportunity to further develop your SolidWorks and mechanical design skills.
  • A company culture built around quality, innovation, integrity and continuous improvement.
