Job summary

QinetiQ in Farnborough is seeking a Junior Cyber Security Engineer to join a team that develops and applies configuration security tools and monitoring for infrastructure. You will review security events, identify root causes, and contribute to reducing vulnerabilities while working on-site at Farnborough.

Day-to-day work includes reviewing SIEM data, health checks, and producing weekly/monthly security reports.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a SOC analyst
• Ability to apply critical thinking to analyse and solve problems
• Prior experience in a cyber security technical role
• Understanding cyber security concepts, threats and vulnerabilities
• Experience using SIEM tools and log analysis techniques

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily SIEM health checks to ensure devices log correctly
• Monitor log volumes and identify anomalies; escalate issues
• Review and triage SIEM alarms and investigate security incidents
• Perform security investigations using SIEM tools and log analysis
• Produce weekly/monthly security reports and present findings
• Manage analyst rota scheduling for PROMON coverage

The Role

As a Junior Cyber Security Engineer, you will work in a team that supports design, development & application of configuration security tools and monitoring for infrastructure.

Day-to-day, you'll review and investigate security events to identify root cause and required responses to reduce and mitigate any vulnerabilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Conducting daily SIEM health checks to ensure all devices are logging correctly and data flows remain stable
• Monitoring log volumes, identifying anomalies, and escalating service issues to the Service Delivery Team
• Reviewing and triaging SIEM alarms, correlating alerts with known activities and investigating potential security incidents
• Performing security investigations using SIEM tools and log analysis techniques to determine appropriate resolution actions
• Producing weekly and monthly security reports, including presenting findings and updates at Security Working Groups
• Managing analyst rota scheduling to maintain continuous PROMON coverage and operational effectiveness

Essential experience of the Junior Cyber Security Engineer:

• Previous experience working as a SOC analyst
• The ability to apply critical thinking to analyse and solve problems as they arise
• Prior experience in a cyber security technical role
• Understanding cyber security, its significance, concepts, threats, vulnerabilities and assurance
• Previous experience using SIEM tools and log analysis techniques

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Farnborough site and is fully on-site.
