Junior Community and Social Engagement Specialist (6-month contract)

At Doist, our mission is to empower people with simple yet powerful tools.

We're a multidisciplinary, fully-remote, team that's passionate about creating products, like Todoist and Twist, that improve people's lives. We thrive on innovating new solutions to old productivity challenges and we seek to rethink how productivity tools are made.

Our Core Values

They are few, but they are mighty. From creating processes to decision-making and recruiting, we build our four core values into nearly every single thing we do.

  • Ambition. You aspire to put a dent in the universe. You set high standards for yourself and those around you. You solve issues that have a high impact on our customers and our company
  • Mastery. You care deeply about the quality of your work. You're continuously learning and pushing yourself to the limits of your ability. As a champion of your craft, you are also a champion of your well-being - you work intensely, then disconnect completely
  • Independence. Others can trust that you'll deliver on time. You keep your word and trust your teammates to do the same. You are proactive, take ownership, and remain accountable with little or no direction
  • Communication. Your communication is clear, concise, and engaging. You keep others in the loop and never go radio silent. You speak respectfully and foster warm relationships through your interactions. You're culturally and socially aware and can appropriately navigate social situations

We invite you to visit our blog to learn more about us, our values, and how we work.

Your Team & Role

Todoist's community spans millions of users worldwide who rely on the app to organize their work and lives. As our Community & Social Engagement Specialist, you'll help nurture these community spaces and create meaningful connections between users and our brand.

This is a 6-month contract position at 20 hours per week, perfect for someone looking to gain experience in community engagement while having flexibility for other commitments.

Your focus will be on actively building relationships with our audience through thoughtful responses to comments, skillful moderation of discussions, and creative initiatives that foster a thriving community around Todoist.

Working closely with our marketing team, you'll provide crucial support that enables them to focus on strategic priorities while you gain hands-on experience in community building within a remote-first, async environment.

At Doist, we're proud to be a profitable, bootstrapped company that champions underdogs and believes in developing talent. We're seeking someone energetic and eager to learn who can bring fresh perspectives to our community engagement efforts while growing professionally.

Our Process

  • Submit your complete application as soon as possible. This includes a resume (or manually entered experience) and thoughtful responses to all the application questions. No cover letter needed! We will close the role once we've compiled our shortlist (so please don't delay!)
  • Application screening. We read every application to understand your motivation, skills, and experience. Once your application has been reviewed, you'll receive a response regarding the status of your application
  • Compensation transparency & Value-alignment interview with shortlisted candidates. We'll calculate and share the rate for your location and you can then schedule a call with Gab H. (Talent Operations Specialist).
  • Role-alignment interview with Naomi L. (Content Marketer)
  • Paid Test Project. This will be your opportunity to showcase your role-specific skills
  • Culture-contribution interview with Brenna L. (Chief Marketing Officer)
  • Offer to the successful hire.

Requirements

About You

To be considered great for this role, you'll be:

  • Highly empathetic and user-focused
  • An exceptional writer and communicator
  • A Todoist user
  • Creative and unafraid to experiment with new formats or approaches
  • Organized, with precise attention to detail
  • Collaborative, respectful, and skilled at navigating diverse and complex perspectives
  • Up to speed on community engagement best practices across a variety of social media platforms that cater primarily towards prosumers and small businesses
  • Able to work independently and manage your time effectively in a fully remote environment
  • Enthusiastic about personal and team productivity tools

While previous professional experience in marketing or community management isn't a hard requirement, we do need someone who's comfortable facilitating online discussions and engaging with communities. This might come from moderating a Discord server, participating actively in forums or social media groups, or similar informal experience. What matters most to us is your demonstrated English writing proficiency (clear, engaging, and error-free communication), empathy in online interactions, ability to navigate challenging conversations with grace, and genuine enthusiasm for Todoist.

Benefits

Some benefits include:

  • Flexible schedule and location: this is a remote freelance position, so you are free to work from wherever you please on whatever schedule works best for you
  • Joining a dynamic international team that spans 30+ countries
  • Free Todoist premium vouchers
