Job description

Junior Clinical Fellow in Vascular Surgery

Applicants are invited to apply for a SHO post in Vascular Surgery for 6 months on a fixed term contract. This post will be based at St Mary's Hospital but may include cross site working.

The successful candidate will be working at the middle grade level as a FY2 Junior Clinical Fellow with previous in Surgery and looking to further develop their knowledge and skills in the area.

Main duties of the job

Applicants must be eligible for registration or hold full registration with the GMC and will be expected to participate in a 1:9 on-call rota. They must have the ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists, operating lists and rotas as well as demonstrate strong communication and team working skills.

The department has a growing quality improvement, research and audit unit and involvement in research is also actively encouraged.

Job responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The post holder is intended to work at SHO level, supporting and aiding the clinical ward work, the Outpatient workload and Elective and Emergency operating of the Department. A pay banding supplement is payable for participation in the on-call rota at middle grade level.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • On GMC registered/ licensed Medical Practitioner
Higher Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCS
Relevant experience in specialty/Sub specialty
  • Good grounding in SHO level surgery
  • Ability to provide a complete employment history
  • Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances
  • Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences from a UKFPO or equivalent
  • Experience under the vascular surgery specialty
  • Experience of HDU/ ITU management level.
Audit Experience
  • Competent in the use of IT packages
  • Experience of Audit
Language Skills
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or have achieved the following scores in the academic lnternational English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application - Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 7, Reading 7, Writing 7. If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these examples they must provide supporting evidence.
