Job description

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals has an opportunity for three Junior Clinical Fellows at ST1 level to join the team starting in August 2025 (or sooner by mutual agreement). The posts are:

  • Clinical Fellow for Postgraduate Education (Respiratory Medicine)
  • Clinical Fellow for Undergraduate Education (Respiratory Medicine)
  • Clinical Fellow for Education and Teaching (Diabetes and Endocrinology)

These posts do not award a National Training Number. However, these posts would be ideal for individuals considering pursuing a career in Respiratory Medicine or Diabetes and Endocrinology. These posts are suitable for candidates who have completed at least Foundation Training Programme or equivalent. 12 months NHS experience is essential of which at least 3 months needs to be in Medicine. Completion of MRCP (or components thereof) is desirable but not essential. The experience and skills obtained in the post would give candidates a clear advantage over competitors when it comes to applications for training posts in the future.

Main duties of the job

Your hours will mainly be M-F (0900-1700), with occasional 0830 starts to support the post-take ward round. There is no formal out of hours commitment, but shifts may be available to any interested candidate.

  • Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems
  • Successful completion of foundation years training or equivalent
  • Experience of working in the NHS of at least 12months duration including at least 3months within 1 of the following specialities. oGeneral Internal Medicine oRespiratory Medicine oCardiology oGastroenterology and Hepatology oCare of the Elderly oDiabetes and Endocrinology, oAcute Medicine or oPalliative Care
  • Recognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient
  • Ability to prioritise clinical need
  • Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk
  • Practical Procedural Skills equivalent to the level of Foundation Year 2 training

Desirable

  • Evidenced intention to undertake further training in a medical specialty
  • Experience of working in the NHS in Respiratory Medicine and/or Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • Further experience in addition to that specified in the essential criteria
  • Evidence of attendance at training or courses dealing with acute clinical situations, clinical prioritisation and handover.
  • Evidence of relevant education or training related to risk management and/or reflective practice related to clinical incidents
  • Practical Procedural Skills equivalent to completion of Internal Medical Stage 1 training
