Job description

The purpose of this post is to provide extensive training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

1. Participate in on-call rota as a JCF.
2. Engage in audit and research activities.
3. Contribute to clinical and service activities to ensure high standards of patient care.
4. Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
5. Provide high-quality healthcare for patients referred to the Women’s Health department for diagnosis and treatment.
6. Attend educational and audit meetings and meet CPD requirements.
7. Provide cover for colleagues during annual leave.
8. Support the Hospital’s Clinical Governance Strategy and participate in clinical audits.
9. Offer prompt and effective advice to General Practitioners when necessary.
10. Contribute to the development of protocols within the hospital and community services.
11. Participate in departmental meetings and activities.
12. Help develop the service.
13. Provide ongoing training for clinical staff as appropriate.

The Department of Women’s Health Services offers a comprehensive Obstetrics and Gynaecology service rated ‘Good’ by Care Quality Commission for local residents. It includes general services and specialized activities in Fetal Medicine, Minimal Access Surgery, Gynaecological Endocrinology, and Oncology.

The department is committed to women’s choice and autonomy, with midwifery management of normal pregnancy. The obstetric practice is high-risk due to the local population, requiring significant medical involvement. Gynaecological services are busy and well-supported, with major surgeries conducted at Lewisham Hospital and day-case surgeries at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich. All theatres are equipped with minimal access operating systems, and there is a well-established laparoscopic surgical team across the trust.
