The Department of Women’s Health Services offers a comprehensive Obstetrics and Gynaecology service rated ‘Good’ by Care Quality Commission for local residents. It includes general services and specialized activities in Fetal Medicine, Minimal Access Surgery, Gynaecological Endocrinology, and Oncology.
The department is committed to women’s choice and autonomy, with midwifery management of normal pregnancy. The obstetric practice is high-risk due to the local population, requiring significant medical involvement. Gynaecological services are busy and well-supported, with major surgeries conducted at Lewisham Hospital and day-case surgeries at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich. All theatres are equipped with minimal access operating systems, and there is a well-established laparoscopic surgical team across the trust.
