Job description

Junior Clinical Fellow in Neonatal Medicine

Join to apply for the Junior Clinical Fellow in Neonatal Medicine role at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Applications are invited for a Trust senior clinical fellow ST4-8 equivalent post in Neonates, initially for 12 months. The successful candidate will work as a Tier 1 for neonatal services, with responsibilities including supervision, training, and education of junior team members. The role involves supporting the Consultant team in daily neonatal unit operations and participating in audits and governance. This position does not involve commitments to general Paediatric services.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Tier 1 on-call duties for neonatal emergencies and NICU care continuation.
  • Performing NIPE (Newborn and Infant Physical Examination) and arranging referrals.
  • Reviewing babies on post-natal wards and transitional care in liaison with Tier 2 and Consultants.
  • Attending deliveries and escalating care as needed.
  • Participating in ward rounds and outpatient clinics.
  • Engaging in weekly departmental teaching sessions.
The Neonatal Directorate

The service covers a 28-bed Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Delivery Suite, Preston Birthing Centre, and Postnatal wards at Royal Preston Hospital. The NICU has 14 acute and 14 special care cots, with additional parent rooms for Transitional Care. The unit provides comprehensive respiratory support and participates in research and clinical trials.
