Job description
Role Overview

This role is as a Junior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine in one of the busiest and most varied Emergency Departments in the UK. As such you will work in both the Emergency Department which comprises adult and Paediatric areas and the Urgent Care Centre. As such you will have the opportunity to assess unwell and injured adult and paediatric patients, come up with an initial management plan and arrange onward disposal of the patient. The department has Consultant cover up until the early hours of the morning and Middle Grade cover 24 hours per day, so you are well supported. It is the ideal job for someone who wishes to just have a taster of Emergency Medicine prior to doing something else, or those committed to a career in the specialty. It is also a post suitable for those medical staff who haven't worked in the UK or NHS before as it is so well supported.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initial assessment of adult and paediatric patients and implementation of a management plan.
  • Discussion of most cases with a Consultant or Middle Grade doctor to confirm the plan.
  • Work in the resuscitation and major areas, the Paediatric area and the Urgent Treatment Centre where patients with minor injuries and illnesses are assessed.
  • Opportunity to learn new clinical skills such as fascia‑iliaca block, suturing, local anaesthetic administration and fracture and dislocation manipulation.
  • Weekly departmental teaching and dedicated self‑directed learning time of 8 hours every other week to aid career development by supervised quality improvement projects.
Learning and Development Support

You will be assigned a clinical supervisor who will meet with you regularly to ensure your educational needs are met whilst you are with us and we encourage Junior Clinical Fellows to undertake Life Support Courses whilst you are with us. To aid this you will have access to a study leave budget. There is simulation training which is run on the shop floor and that you will be encouraged to attend.
