The Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) service at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) is one of two nationally commissioned (NSCT) services for adults with this disease (the other centre is at Solihull Hospital in Birmingham) and works in collaboration with the two national paediatric EB centres (at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and Birmingham Children's Hospital). The service at GSTT provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care for approximately 450 adult EB patients, including outpatient reviews, complex multidisciplinary team assessments, and inpatient admissions. Specialties in the EB multidisciplinary team include specialist nursing, dentistry, dietetics, plastic surgery, hand therapy, physiotherapy, palliative care, pain management, psychotherapy, oncology, ophthalmology, and podiatry. The GSTT also hosts the Robin Eady National Diagnostic EB Laboratory, offering skin biopsy and genetic analysis for all EB types from the UK and abroad. These services are nationally and internationally recognized as centres of excellence for diagnosing and managing EB.
St John's provides comprehensive dermatology services, including multidisciplinary specialist services. Its primary aim is to deliver excellence in clinical care, education, training, research, and development. The institute offers postgraduate degrees in Dermatology and contributes to the Biomedical School at GKT School of Medicine, King's College London. GSTT and KCL are part of one of the UK's five Biomedical Research Centres.
