Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic, forward thinking and motivated nurse to join the Upper GI CNS team. Imperial College NHS Trust is a tertiary referral centre for OG, CUP and HPB malignancies for North West London. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain expert experience and enhanced knowledge of UGI cancer management in secondary care and develop key advanced CNS skills in an environment supported by an experienced nursing and multiprofessional team.

You will work autonomously but will be supported by a team of CNSs and other MDT members delivering an exceptional standard of nursing care for patients and their families throughout the cancer patient pathway. You will further develop skills enabling you to practice at an advanced clinical level, both in your own clinical practice and as a role model to others as an UGI cancer Key Worker.

Working with the Upper GI cancer CNS team, you will initiate and support Service development and improve patient experience based on emerging and best practice models of care which is responsive to patient feedback and audit findings.

As a band 7 you will be expected to meet the essential criteria, possess the relevant post registration experience as outlined in the person specification.

Main duties of the job

·As delegated, provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients and their relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets. This will be for inpatients, outpatients and day care patients of the Trust, and will involve liaison with community services as appropriate.

·The post holder will provide specialist nursing care and support within their clinical speciality. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.

·To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for any area specified acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.

·Working within existing CNS specialist team you will act as a Key Worker, carrying a clinical caseload but working under close supervision, to proactively manage care and provide easy access for ongoing support for patients.

Education/ Qualifications

  • NMC registration and a degree in related subject
  • Post registration qualification(s) in speciality or relevant subject (Oncology or/and Upper GI)
  • Advanced Communication course and Level 2 psychological skills training.
  • Recognised teaching qualification or demonstratable teaching experience
  • MSc or MA in related speciality
  • Recognised physical assessment module at level 7

Experience

  • Relevant and substantial post registration experience at band 6 or above to speciality
  • Experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
