Job description

Job Summary

Applications are invited for Junior Clinical Fellow (JCF) positions within the Specialty and Integrated Medicine Care Clinical Service Unit at St Jamess University Hospital, Leeds. They are ideally suited to post-Foundation Year 2 junior doctors who have yet to decide their chosen career pathway or who are not yet ready to enter a formal training scheme.

Our JCF posts, which are fixed-term for 12-months from 6th August 2025, are designed to provide excellent clinical training in Acute, General, and Elderly Medicine.

Successful applicants will be given an opportunity to work within our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service, on our Acute Medical Units, on our in-patient Specialty Wards, and in our Centre for Reconditioning.

In Addition, The Postholder Will Be Asked To Contribute To Our Exciting Research And Innovation (R&I) Programme, And Will Be Supported To Develop a Specialist Interest In One (or More) Of The Following Areas:

  • Medical management
  • Quality improvement
  • Teaching and education
  • Simulation

Each JCF will be allocated a named Educational Supervisor with whom they will develop a tailored training and R&I plan. This will involve ring-fenced time to pursue their non-clinical interest.

Main duties of the job

Postholders will contribute to all aspects of the Specialty and Integrated Medicine service. We expect a particular focus on:

Good clinical care;

Maintaining good medical practice;

Good relationships and communication with patients;

Good working relationships with colleagues;

Good teaching and training;

Professional behaviour and probity.

The ideal applicants for these positions will therefore be able to demonstrate excellent clinical, interpersonal and communication skills. They will be able to work cooperatively with colleagues across our multidisciplinary teams, managing their time effectively. The successful applicant will be committed to providing expert medical care, including discharge planning, in patients presenting with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.

In addition to specialist interest time, opportunities will be provided for education and continuing professional development each week.

Post-holders will be asked to contribute to an out-of-hours rota providing cover for SDEC and medical admissions.
