Job summary

The University of Reading is seeking a Commis Chef on a full-time basis to join our campus catering team. This junior post will involve preparing fresh, nutritious dishes from scratch, following recipes and instructions, and working with our Aspiring Chef team to develop core skills and future progression.

Salary is Grade 3 (£24,685–£26,093 per annum) with enhanced pay outside core hours; contract is 36 hours per week. Interviews will be held in October 2026 on our Whiteknights Campus.

Qualifications

• The ability to prepare food following specified recipes, instructions and methods
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to recognise and deal with problems as they arise
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
