Set in the heart of Donnington Village, Newbury, The Hartley Arms is a beautifully appointed, cosy restaurant with a regularly changing menu that is dictated by the seasons. The restaurant is a snug, contemporary space with 40 covers per service (lunch and dinner, Wednesday - Sunday only) where guests enjoy thoughtfully prepared meals using fresh and local produce and a wide range of drinks including beers from local breweries.
Behind the pub, there is a beautifully decorated courtyard with a private room that can hold 20 tucked in the corner.
The Hartley Arms has ambitions to gain AA Rosettes and Michelin Stars, and be the number one restaurant in Newbury (and beyond) on Trip Advisor.
Working Hours: Wednesday to Sunday - 45 hours per week
Remuneration: £30k per annum
** Free Accommodation ** - on site shared with one other Chef
Tronc Tips - (£300 to 500 per week)

Key Skills and Experience
You will need to have worked in a kitchen and trained as a commis chef and be of a basic CDP level
Preparing, cooking and presenting high quality dishes within the speciality section
Assisting the Sous Chef in creating menu items, recipes and developing dishes
Preparing meat and fish
Assisting with the management of health and safety
Assisting with the management of food hygiene practices
Monitoring portion and waste control
Overseeing the maintenance of kitchen and food safety standards
Knowledge and ability to run a section
Ability to work without close supervision
Ability to produce good quality food in all sections Good oral communication
High level of attention to detail
Good level of numeracy
Enthusiasm to develop your own skills and knowledge plus those around you
Adaptability to change and willingness to embrace new ideas and processes
Positive and approachable manner
Desirable Skills and Experience
Level 2 Health and Safety in the Workplace Award
Level 3 Food Safety Awards
Education and Training (Preferred)
City & Guilds - Catering ( work experience whilst training could be accepted)
Level 1 and 2 Food Safety Awards
Minimum 1 years relevant experience
Awareness of manual handling techniques
Awareness of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) and chemical safety
Experience of kitchen equipment
Experience of dangerous equipment such as knives
Understandable level of English spoken and written
