Job purpose
We’re looking for a Junior C++ Developer to join our team as we continue the rollout and ongoing development of our SSBT (Self-Service Betting Terminal) software used in our betting shops across the UK. You will be joining a team focused on enhancing and supporting high-performance, customer-facing applications and integrating with a wide variety of hardware devices.
This is a great opportunity to work on modern C++/Qt applications in a real-world setting, gaining experience across the full development life cycle while being mentored by experienced developers.
As a Junior Developer, you’ll contribute to the evolution of the software, supporting feature enhancements, performance improvements, UI implementation and integration with various hardware components. You’ll learn by doing, working closely with other developers, QA engineers, and delivery leads to help deliver high-quality solutions.
Job Duties
Contribute to the development of performant, reliable software
Write unit and automation tests
Assist with the integration and support of hardware peripherals (e.g. note acceptors, printers)
Support UI implementation and improvements based on existing designs
Participate in code reviews, testing and debugging
Write and maintain technical documentation
Collaborate with QA to support test coverage and investigate issues
Work as part of an Agile delivery team to help meet sprint goals
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
Solid foundation in C++
Familiarity with Windows development and Visual Studio
Understanding of client-server architecture
Basic knowledge of multi-threading concepts
Knowledge of networking concepts (HTTP, TCP/IP, sockets)
Willingness to learn and take on new challenges
Desirable:
Exposure to Qt/QML
Interest in or experience with hardware communication (e.g. serial, USB)
Experience or familiarity with C#
An interest in betting or sports is a plus
Knowledge/experience of DevOps.
