Junior Buyer & Admin Assistant

GKL are a Building, Civil Engineering and Development company based in Peterborough, working on Projects in Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Bedfordshire and Rutland.

We are currently looking to recruit a Junior Buyer/Admin Assistant to join our small, but busy team based in Peterborough.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has good written and verbal communication skills and a willingness to learn. The right candidate will have an eye for detail and enjoy working as part of a small team.

The main duties and responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Working alongside our estimating and procurement manager you will assist with the sourcing of materials, services and plant and equipment for our projects.
  2. Dealing with site requisitions and raising of purchase orders for suppliers and services accurately ensuring compliance with company policies.
  3. Helping to solve problems that may arise on site in a proactive manner.
  4. Dealing with invoice queries from suppliers relating to purchase orders.
  5. Organising and booking training courses.
  6. General admin assistance to Director and Project Manager.
  7. Working in accordance with set policies and procedures.
  8. Other ad hoc duties as required (answering the door and phone).

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  1. Five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including Maths and English.
  2. Excellent written and spoken English.
  3. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
  4. Prior experience in the Construction Sector with at least 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  5. The ability to work independently using your own initiative and as part of a team.
  6. Self-motivation, with good time keeping and a positive work ethic.
  7. The ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  8. The ability to remain calm and objective under pressure.
  9. Driving License.
  10. Previous experience with Eque2 Construct software (or similar) would be advantageous.

  3. Hours of work are 8.30am to 4.30 pm Monday to Friday.

  5. Holiday entitlement is 23 days per year plus 8 bank holidays. Holiday entitlement increases with length of service.
  6. We have a Company Pension Scheme that you will be invited to join.
  7. Death in service benefit is provided after two years of service.
  8. The starting Salary will be in the range of £26,000 - £31,000 depending upon experience.
