Job description

Junior Building Surveyor - Parapet Wall Visual Review Project

Location: North London

Contract Type: Temporary ASAP - September 2025

Salary: £24.40 PH PAYE

About the Project

We're undertaking a vital review of the structural integrity of parapet walls across a significant portion of our building stock. This important work follows a recent incident involving a parapet wall collapse, and it's part of our commitment to keeping our residents safe.

The project involves a two-stage process:

Desktop review of property data

Targeted site inspections or drone surveys

You'll be focused on the desktop review, helping us identify potential risks before inspections take place.

The Role

As a Junior Building Surveyor, you'll play a key part in improving resident safety. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out visual reviews of properties using Google Maps and Upshot photos
  • Identifying whether a parapet wall is present
  • Looking for corbelling (overhanging brickwork)
  • Spotting visible defects, such as cracks or signs of movement
  • Accurately recording findings in a tracker to help categorize buildings by risk

Your work will directly inform the next stage of physical inspections, ensuring we prioritise properties where attention is needed most.

Why This Matters

This is much more than a data task. Your attention to detail will support and protect residents by identifying buildings that may pose a risk. You'll play an important role in preventing future incidents and making sure our homes remain safe and secure.

What You'll Need

A methodical, detail-oriented approach

Basic understanding of building construction

Confidence using Google Maps and navigating Street View

Ability to spot structural features and defects

Commitment to accuracy

No advanced technical knowledge is required - just a sharp eye and a desire to make a difference.

The Scale of the Work

We've already reviewed 735 properties. Now we're moving on to the next 3,381 pre-1920 buildings, with a variety of roof types. Your contribution will be vital in identifying properties with parapet walls and assessing their condition.
