Junior Broadcast Engineer - An exciting opportunity to contribute to radio, TV, and digital products at News UK, working within the Broadcast Technology team.

The Team:

You’ll join a supportive team of Broadcast Engineers, collaborating to share knowledge, develop skills, and produce high-quality radio, TV, and digital content. The team manages complex studio and broadcast systems to ensure seamless transmissions.

Your Role:

Reporting to the Lead Broadcast Support Engineer, you will be part of a team of 8 shift engineers supporting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and preparing broadcast systems and networks at our London studios and on location. You will work in shifts, including early, late, and weekends, and participate in an on-call rota for urgent issues outside regular hours.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:
  • Providing customer-focused support for broadcast technology users
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting hardware and software in studios and racks
  • Seeking opportunities to grow and develop your skills
  • Collaborating with external companies and internal teams to resolve faults promptly
  • Testing and repairing equipment
  • Performing quality and line tests with external contributors
  • Booking, configuring, and testing satellite feeds for events
  • Configuring equipment to operational needs
  • Supporting Outside Broadcasts
  • Documenting systems, processes, and procedures
  • Keeping studios, racks, stores, and offices safe and tidy
  • Implementing new systems for evolving broadcast requirements
  • Understanding transmission chains and audio processing
Candidate requirements:
  • Some knowledge and experience with broadcast media technologies
  • Experience with TV and/or radio studio operations
  • Understanding of professional audio and video signal paths
  • Strong numerical and written communication skills
  • Awareness of IP-based technologies
  • Knowledge of broadcast playout and scheduling systems
  • Positive attitude and excellent client-facing interpersonal skills
  • Ability to assess risks and work safely at all times
