Job summary

GVR Solutions Ltd is seeking a Junior/Assistant Quantity Surveyor for an Essex-based main contractor. The role focuses on commercial management across education, commercial, healthcare and student accommodation sectors, with projects across Essex and into Kent.

The successful candidate will assist with cost plans, budgets, procurement, measurements, valuations and final accounts, while supporting the commercial team and site interfaces.

Junior/Assistant Quantity Surveyor Required in Essex

GVR Solutions are currently working alongside a very well-established main contractor who are looking to bring an Early-career Quantity Surveyor onto the team, with a salary of £26k-£40k available depending on the level of experience.

As a Colchester-based main contractor, they focus on new build and refurbishment projects within the education, commercial, healthcare and student accommodation sectors. They deliver projects across Essex and into Kent, with a strong pipeline of work across the region.

Responsibilities of the Junior/Assistant Quantity Surveyor:

• Assist in the commercial management of multiple construction projects.
• Support the preparation of cost plans, budgets, and tender submissions.
• Assist with procurement of subcontractors and material packages.
• Measure works and prepare valuations, variations, and final accounts.
• Monitor project costs and assist in preparing cost reports.
• Review subcontractor applications and payments.
• Liaise with site teams, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Help identify commercial risks and opportunities throughout project delivery.
• Ensure accurate record keeping and contract documentation.
• Support senior members of the commercial team with day-to-day project administration.

Requirements of the Junior/Assistant Quantity Surveyor:

• Full UK driving licence is a must.
• Experience within the commercial side of construction is advantageous.
• Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related construction discipline (or working towards one).
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
• Eager to learn and develop within a specialist subcontracting environment.
