Job summary

Barrington James Drug Discovery & Preclinical in London is seeking a Junior Animal Technician to join a busy research animal facility. You will contribute to day‑to‑day running, helping ensure high standards of welfare and facility hygiene.

The role covers cage washing, sanitisation, routine animal care, feeding and welfare checks, with opportunities to develop practical skills within animal husbandry and SOPs.

Qualifications

• Previous experience within an animal research facility
• Experience in cage washing, sterilisation or general animal husbandry
• An understanding of animal welfare and the importance of maintaining high standards within a research environment
• Good attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures accurately
• A reliable and practical approach to work, with the ability to undertake physically active duties
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Responsibilities

• Carry out cage washing and sanitisation of animal cages, equipment and associated materials
• Ensure all equipment is cleaned, disinfected and prepared for reuse in line with facility procedures
• Support daily animal husbandry duties, including feeding, watering and general welfare checks
• Maintain clean, tidy and hygienic animal rooms and surrounding facility areas
• Assist with the movement and preparation of cages and equipment
• Follow established standard operating procedures and health and safety requirements
• Monitor animal welfare and report any concerns to senior members of the team
• Support the wider animal facility team with general operational duties as required
