Job description

Hi, we’re Bloom & Wild. Founded in 2013, our mission back then was to make sending and receiving flowers the joy that it should be, by harnessing technology, brand and letterbox delivery. Together, we’ve fulfilled over 20 million deliveries (and counting!), making us the largest direct to consumer flower business in Europe.

We announced £75 million Series D funding in 2021 and that same year acquired bloomon in The Netherlands and Bergamotte in France. Now in 2024 home to a family of 3 beautiful brands, we have reached profitability and are looking into expanding our gifting offering to other categories like cakes, candles and cocktails. This is all part of our ambition to build Europe's #1 direct to consumer gifting destination.

We really care about creating a diverse and inclusive team - so we welcome people from all backgrounds, with different perspectives, ideas and experiences to work with us. In our team, everyone has the freedom to give their opinion, grow in their career and be part of a genuinely caring and inclusive team.

️Technology at Bloom & Wild

Our Technology team of over 60 people sits right at the heart of our business. We build and maintain the solutions that power e-commerce, production and fulfilment, enabling our brands to delight our customers every day.

The Engineering team is six, cross-functional, Product Engineering squads, who each own their own business and architectural domain and are supported by our Platform, Architecture, Data and IT teams.

Our platform uses technologies including Ruby on Rails and Python/ React. It exposes APIs that are used by our multi-brand Angular web app and our native iOS and Android mobile apps. On Android, we are migrating the project to use Clean Architecture with MVI and Jetpack Compose.

Most of our team is based in the UK or The Netherlands and works in a flexible model, with a choice in how often they travel to the office. Our squads meet in person at least once per quarter to maintain connections, collaborate on larger projects, and have fun together.

You can read lots more about our technology stack and our culture over on our tech blog - Code Wild

What you’ll be doing:
  • You’ll play an active role in delivering the roadmap for the Apps squad and be a key part of our Engineering team.
  • Collaborating with other engineers, designers, product managers, and stakeholders as you work together to scope out what to build and how.
  • Owning feature development from ideation through to production release and ongoing maintenance, using an iterative approach to validate ideas and learn
  • Being a part of our supportive engineering culture as you learn more, and grow your career, within Bloom & Wild Engineering
What Excites Us: Ideal Qualities for This Android Role
  • Have a foundational understanding and practical experience with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, along with basic knowledge of XML, gained through personal projects or relevant coursework/entry-level roles.
  • Have a quality mindset and a passion for writing clean code while also keeping an eye for opportunities for improvements.
  • Possess a good understanding of the Android Activity Lifecycle, including how to manage main and background threads effectively.
  • Understand the importance of practices such as version control and CI/CD, and have used industry-recognised tools to follow them.
  • Bring a positive and resilient attitude to the team, effectively navigating challenges and contributing constructively to a supportive work environment.
  • Actively participate in collaborative, data-driven, and experimental approaches to problem-solving.
  • Are keen to learn and stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and value sharing your knowledge with your peers.
  • It would be great if you also have...
  • Some basic knowledge of Java.
  • Some knowledge about testing and creating testable code.
  • Some knowledge of dependency injection.
  • Experience working on an e-commerce app.
  • Have exposure to established architectural patterns like Clean Architecture or MVI, and are eager to learn their underlying principles and practical application.

These are some of the skills and experience we think will enable success in this role, but please don’t worry if you are missing some of these.
We’re committed to building a team made up of different strengths, skills, and experiences, so if you’re excited about our values, passionate about what you do, and would like to join us in doing things more thoughtfully, we’d love to hear from you.
