Job summary

Nova Biochem is seeking a Junior Analytical Chemist to join our Nottingham lab to support analysis and characterization of materials from our depolymerisation process. You will work with the Analytic Chemist and R&D teams on routine sample prep, data recording, and hands-on analysis with a range of techniques.

Qualifications

• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent practical training in chemistry or an related discipline.
• 1–2 years’ experience in industrial chemistry or process development.
• Hands-on with chromatography or analytical instrumentation.
• Exposure to biomass-derived materials, polymers or complex samples.
• Experience in pilot-scale or manufacturing-linked lab environments.
• Basic QA/QC, instrument calibration and data management understanding.
• Practical sample prep, wet chemistry and routine lab procedures.
• Familiarity with GC-MS, GPC, GC-FID or HPLC techniques.
• Strong attention to detail and methodical lab work.
• Good record-keeping and traceable data practices.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process samples from depolymerisation/separation for analysis.
• Support routine analysis using GC-MS, GPC, GC-FID, HPLC and related methods.
• Prepare solutions, solvents and materials for testing.
• Record experimental conditions, results and observations accurately.
• Follow established analytical methods and sample-handling protocols.
• Assist with cleaning, preparation and upkeep of analytical equipment.
• Identify unusual results or equipment issues and report them.
• Support lab organisation, stock management and consumables prep.
• Follow safety procedures for chemical handling.
• Collaborate with analytical, depolymerisation and separation teams on R&D.
