Job summary

Kentjobs is seeking a trainee accountant responsible for preparing accounts and tax returns for small businesses, assisting senior accountants, and performing administrative duties. Job description

Job specification and package

The main job (inhouse training will be provided for all matters below)

To prepare small business accounts (sole trader, partnerships and limited companies) from client records including chasing clients for missing information and speaking to clients to ensure accounts are accurate

To prepare income and corporation tax returns and computations based on accounts prepared

To assist senior accountants on larger accounts jobs when required

To undertake quarterly reporting for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax when it starts in 2026

You will also be required to:

To answer phone when receptionists on other calls or otherwise unavailable

To ‘meet and greet’ clients in reception when receptionists are unavailable

Help keep the office tidy and other administrative tasks

Training

Training towards an AAT and/or ACCA qualification is also a prerequisite and you will be able to start your training once you have successfully negotiated your probationary period (usually three to six months). This will entail studying at home during the evenings and weekends and taking professional exams every 3 to 6 months. You will also go on external revision courses close to the exam dates.

Please be aware that this is an academic profession and achieving an AAT and/or ACCA membership (becoming a qualified accountant) can take 3 to 6 years.

Package

Salaries start from £16,000 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience to date) and for each exam pass (or exemption allowed) a rise of £1,000 is given.

Training costs are covered only for first attempts at each exam. Additional days leave are given to attend external revision courses and exams.

Holiday entitlement is 20 days plus bank holidays.

Office hours are 9 to 5 with an hour for lunch.

There is free parking locally although this may change in the future.
