Description of the Job:

About the Position: We are a young accounting firm seeking a junior accountant to join our competent and amiable staff. For someone with at least a year of experience in UK accounting who wants to advance in a nurturing practice setting, this is an excellent opportunity. We’re searching for a self-driven person who feels comfortable handling a variety of tasks, such as accounts preparation, bookkeeping, and payroll. You will have the chance to expand your technical knowledge and collaborate directly with a diverse range of clients.

Duties

• For small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), prepare and submit statutory accounts.
• Handle and process payroll for several customers while maintaining compliance with RTI and pensions.
• Maintain ledgers and handle bookkeeping via accounting software (such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage).
• Create and file VAT returns in accordance with Making Tax Digital (MTD) regulations.
• Help with self-assessment and corporation tax return preparation.
• Effectively communicate with clients to obtain information and address their questions.
• As needed, assist the larger team with ad hoc tasks.

Requirements

• Experience working at a UK accounting firm for at least a year is required.
• Knowledge of bookkeeping, payroll, and account preparation.
• Knowledge of programs like Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage.
• Excellent communication and Excel skills.
• Strong time-management and organizing skills.
• The capacity for independent effort and meticulousness.

Desired (but not necessary)

• Pursuing or being eligible for AAT, ACCA, or ACA.
• Applications are welcome from chartered accountants (CA).
• Familiarity with automation tools or accounting software integrations.
