Job description

Context

Mallards Support Services Ltd (MSS) is a recently formed company at the heart of a group of philanthropically funded sustainability initiatives in the Isle of Man, including a botanical garden and regenerative farming.

South African-British technology entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth lives on the Island and has been investing in these projects for over a decade. This year will see a significant increase in activity and employment in the Isle of Man, expected to reach 20-30 people initially, with potential short-term growth.

MSS will provide a range of administrative and support services to all projects on the Island. Support may also extend to other projects funded by Mark Shuttleworth, particularly in São Tomé and Príncipe, Africa.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will assist with daily accounting tasks, maintain financial records, and ensure accuracy in transactions. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in accounting and financial management. The position will report to one of the MSS directors. As of April 2025, an office in Santon is planned to open, with details on working patterns below.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist in preparing financial statements, reports, and bank reconciliations.
  2. Maintain and update general ledger and journal entries.
  3. Process accounts payable and receivable transactions.
  4. Reconcile bank statements and resolve financial discrepancies.
  5. Assist in budgeting and financial forecasting.
  6. Support tax preparation and ensure compliance with regulations.
  7. Participate in month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  8. Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
  9. Assist with audits and financial reviews as needed.
  10. Collaborate with senior accountants and finance team on projects.
Qualifications & Skills
  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  2. 0-2 years of relevant experience.
  3. Basic knowledge of GAAP/IFRS principles.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, or similar software.
  5. Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  6. Good communication and organizational skills.
  7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  8. Knowledge of tax regulations is a plus.
