Job Introduction

The BBC Serbian Service is part of the BBC World Service, delivering impartial and in-depth news and analysis to Serbian-speaking audiences worldwide. With a focus on digital innovation, we produce content that resonates with our audience, utilizing modern storytelling techniques across various platforms, including our website and social media channels.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Video Journalist to join our dynamic team in Belgrade. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Serbian media landscape and a commitment to delivering high-quality journalism that informs and engages our audience.

Main Responsibilities

• Originate and produce a wide variety of news and current affairs content for relevant output, working collaboratively within a team.
• Use a range of video, audio, and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit, and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
• Present content on radio, TV, or online, both live and recorded, as required.
• Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
• Undertake pre- and post-production and studio work, live and pre-recorded.
• Liaise closely with other team members and departments within the BBC to ensure output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practices are upheld.
• Take a lead within a team setting or on delivering specific pieces of journalism or projects, as appropriate.
• Tailor different news treatments for different audiences, ensuring that the output reflects the audiences we serve.
• Prioritize and plan activities, taking into account all relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing, and available resources.
• Produce engaging packages through a range of production skills.
• Deliver to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
• At all times, carry out duties in accordance with the BBC Health and Safety policy.

Are you the right candidate?

• Fluent proficiency in Serbian.
• High proficiency in English; proficiency in Russian is an advantage.
• Proven experience in video journalism, with a strong portfolio showcasing storytelling, shooting, and editing skills.
• Experience with shooting and editing digital videos.
• Experience and knowledge of using social media platforms, with an understanding of engagement and moderation.
• Ability to translate and adapt content accurately and creatively between English and Serbian.
• Familiarity with digital content management systems and multimedia production tools.
• Strong understanding of the BBC's editorial standards and commitment to impartiality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrates a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understands how individual differences can benefit the BBC.
• Effective planning and organizing skills, ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, prioritizing, delivering consistently to deadlines, and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
• Flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.
• An understanding of Health & Safety procedures and how they apply to broadcasting
