PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Journalist role for BBC News Streaming involves running single-story live streams across a range of daily news stories, frequently as sole producer. The ability to rapidly familiarise yourself with a daily news story -planned or breaking-is essential as are the skills and capacity to deliver any or all the stream's production - editorial and operational. All our roles - including Journalists - successfully pitch and execute ideas for streams that will broaden audience reach.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

Join BBC News Streaming and help shape the future of digital journalism through our pioneering single story live streams. As a Journalist, you’ll typically own the production of one or more live streams in our Streaming Control Centre. You’ll be a natural collaborator who thrives in a fast-paced daily news environment where taking ownership for your decisions and development is the norm. You will be as comfortable covering breaking news as you are planned live events and identifying off-diary stories that will engage audiences we need to reach. If you are agile, creative and are passionate about redefining live video news, this is the role for you.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • As a Journalist on the team you’ll work with colleagues across the BBC and within the Streaming Team to showcase BBC News at its best.
  • Since launch, BBC News’ streams have reached millions of users in the UK and around the world. Across iPlayer, the BBC News website and app and on live pages, we bring audiences live coverage of the biggest stories - delivering the best of the BBC’s journalism 24/7. Following significant investment in digital teams across BBC News, the team is now expanding and broadening to deliver non-stop coverage around the clock, from across the globe. From later this year, the team will also regularly deliver output from Streaming to viewers on UK television.
  • You’ll assist in the production of a wide variety of live news coverage. The successful candidates will be at home with breaking news, or pre-planned major events. With a keen eye for moments, you’ll help spot and amplify the best of the BBC to audiences wherever they are with us, digitally.
  • Streaming is a major priority for BBC News across our platforms. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of the industry; you’ll be motivated to embrace the challenge and work with others to seize the opportunity.
  • Journalists in the team will be expected to work across a variety of daytime, evening and weekend shifts to deliver always on News coverage across BBC platforms.
