Salary: £28,000 - £38,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Hours of work for this role
A rota pattern across seven days leading BBC Breakfast and the BBC News at One. Unsociable hours and shifts, including nights and weekends, are a key part of your pattern.

The BBC is seeking a creative broadcast journalist driven by ideas to produce content for BBC Breakfast and BBC News at One.

We need a team player who can work under pressure, react to unfolding events, and understands BBC audiences, with the ability to connect across all BBC platforms.

Main Responsibilities
  • Book guests and write briefs for BBC Breakfast and BBC News at One.
  • Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate, impartial journalism.
  • Contribute ideas for stories, segments, guests, and developments.
  • Collaborate closely with team members and other departments to share output, avoid duplication, and uphold best practices.
  • Lead within a team or on specific journalism projects as appropriate.
  • Tailor news treatments for different audiences to ensure the output reflects our diverse viewers.
  • Prioritize and plan activities considering deadlines, staffing, and resources.
  • Follow BBC health and safety policies at all times.
  • Maintain knowledge of media law and OFCOM guidelines.
  • Occasionally report content on radio, TV, or online, live or recorded.
Are you the right candidate?
  • Knowledge across politics, business, entertainment, and other subjects.
  • Creative storytelling, package production, and guest booking skills.
  • Contribute ideas in meetings and work collaboratively.
  • Experience with live OBs and BBC Newsgathering systems.
  • Ability to develop relationships within the BBC and work across digital platforms, including social media.
  • Confidence with BBC’s Editorial guidelines and policies.
